Bridge to Terabithia is a story of a preteen frustration and friendship. Jess Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) is picked on and pushed around at school each day only to come home to his struggling family lead by his aggravated father Jack Aarons (Robert Patrick). Jess’s duck and cover coping mechanism is failing him more each day, until his new neighbor Leslie Burke (AnnaSophia Robb) begins to pull him out of his shell. Jess and Leslie use their imaginations to create a magical world for escape the difficult world of Middle School and learn valuable social lessons in the process.
I enjoyed Bridge to Terabithia. The storyline is strong and the special effects are kept on a leash as to not overwhelm and distract from the plot. Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb, Robert Patrick and Bailee Madison all do a good job providing interesting characters with developed and individual personalities. Bailee Madison is especially surprising. I think she is really a 23 year old with a tore up Thyroid, as, I just can not see how a little girl can act so well. Unfortunately, my daughter did not think quite so highly of the movie, which of coarse, defeats the purpose for having rented it. Bridge to Terabithia just could not hold her attention and the movie is a mite blue for a children’s movie.
